On Tuesday, July 4, Fairfield County resident Samuel Paprin, of Greenwich, was swimming at the Bolton Portholes, located in in the western foothills of the Green Mountains, in Bolton, Vermont, the state’s police reported.
A preliminary investigation into Paprin’s death shows that at approximately 4:30 p.m., he got caught in the swimming hole’s rapids and was found unresponsive.
Paprin was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"We're saddened by yet another death at the Bolton Potholes," Richmond Rescue, a Vermont nonprofit emergency medical team, posted online along with a photo of a body recovery mission at the swimming hole from the year prior.
The team urged the public to "find a safer place to swim," adding that "the Potholes are dangerous."
Officials added that the investigation is ongoing.
